WHY USE ASSESSMENTS?...

There are several important reasons to use pre-employment assessments

  • Two of three new hires will disappoint in the first year
  • Ninety-five of 100 applicants will "exaggerate" to get a job
  • Most hiring decisions are made during the first five minutes of an interview
  • One of three businesses will be sued this year over an employment issue
  • Turnover costs thousands of dollars for every departing employee
  • You can be sued for illegal discrimination
  • Testing is acceptable, offers a solution, and is even expected

When selecting people for promotion, otherwise excellent employees have too often been miscast into roles they could not perform satisfactorily. Clearly, an essential ingredient for making "people decisions" has been missing from the formula. The use of assessments has resulted in extraordinary increases in productivity while reducing employee relations problems, employee turnover, stress, and overall human resources expenses. The use of assessments has become essential to employers who:

  • Want to put the right people into jobs
  • Provide employees with effective training
  • Help their managers to become more effective
  • Promote people into positions where they will succeed.

A well-documented study, published in Harvard Business Review concludes that "Job Match" is by far the most reliable predictor of effectiveness on the job. The study considered many factors including the age, sex, race, education and experience of approximately 300,000 subjects. It evaluated their job performance and found no significant statistical differences, except in the area of "Job Match." The conclusion: "It's not experience that counts or college degrees or other accepted factors; success hinges on a fit with the job."

The only reliable method for evaluating "Job Match" is with a properly designed assessment instrument, capable of measuring the essential job-related characteristics particular to each specific job. In doing so, the individual qualities of candidates are compared to the qualities of employees who performing their duties in a superior manner. We offer assessments designed for this purpose.

SUCCESS STORIES...

Over 35,000 clients in 60 countries are using our assessment solutions. Read what some of them have said:

"What has enabled us to be the "best in class" in our profession? One of the key components of our strategy is using assessment solutions from Profiles International. Prior to trying their assessments in the mid-1990s, we had used assessment products from three other "well-known" assessment companies. The reality is that none of them worked - period. The caliber of our workforce was in a downward spiral and our turnover was in the several hundred percent per year. We had to do something, but did not know what to do. Our customers were getting tired of our turnover and lack of quality, too. Then, reluctantly, we tried Profiles International. Wow - what a change!" "Over the years, we have used multiple Profiles products. Suffice it to say that these assessments have become a standard part of our hiring and leadership process. Implementing these employee assessment solutions in our business has resulted in a significant return on our investment." Tom M. Conley, President & CEO

"The results of our utilizing the Step One Survey in the hiring of employees have been unbelievable. After just four months of using the Step One reports as part of our application process, the annualized turnover rate for our cashiers in one of my stores went from 1200% to 200% without any other changes to pay rates, management or shift schedules. Thus all the glory has to go to the in-depth information provided by the Step One report, which enables us to hire smarter." Johnny Branch, President

"We recently used the Customer Service Perspective as a training tool to help our existing staff better understand their strengths and weaknesses. I found the Survey most helpful in identifying areas that our team members both excel at and can use additional training." Aimee Hathaway, Human Resources Manager

"We were pleased to be introduced to the Profile XT. You took our best engineer, the one we would like to clone several times over, and assessed his thinking style, behavioral traits and occupational interests. The in-depth information we received in the reports generated from this assessment helped us determine exactly what we were looking for in our next engineer that we needed to hire. With that profile, we assessed a candidate we liked and found the placement report to be very concise in seeing how closely matched this candidate was to what we expected for the position. The interview questions the placement report provides assisted us in maintaining a well organized and effective interview process. The Profile XT will help us make more informed hiring decisions and help us coach and develop our employees more effectively."
Mindy Bergeman, Human Resource Manager

"The Profile XT has enabled our company to benchmark the performance standards in our sales executives so that we can strive to hire the best most productive candidates in the shortest amount of time. It saves us about $45,000 each time we can avoid hiring the wrong person. In addition, the Internet application with onscreen administration, instant analysis and report generation makes administration very easy and efficient." Howard Falkow, Director of Human Resources

"The Profiles Team Analysis pinpointed exactly the same challenges as were demonstrated during the team's existence. Had we known before, what we learned after the fact, these teams' ability to perform effectively could have been greatly enhanced. As it was, they threatened themselves from within. With a few minor changes, significantly greater performance could have been realized." G. Benson Lange, Director of Engineering, Griffin International

"The Checkpoint 360 is the best product in this category that I've used. This tool replaced another product that we had been using exclusively for almost two years. The managers and executives at Spectrum Healthcare Services (SHS) receive more valuable information in an easy to read, color-coded format, which encompasses everyone's individual learning style. Not only is there validated feedback, but a comprehensive action plan that each person may use to implement change, based on the facts from their customized report." Patricia L. Keeley, Director, Training and Development
